There can be umpteen numbers of reasons for lack of enough breastmilk, which include hormone imbalances and the underlying fertility issues. As per an expert from Ayurveda Singapore, some healthy food items which helps the lactating mothers to produce more milk. Let’s see what the food items are and how one can include them in the regular diet.

As per Ayurveda, Shatavari is a species of asparagus plant, which not only keeps the female reproductive system robust, but also increases milk production in a lactating mother. The expert from Ayurvedic Singapore advices to add Shatavari in the food.

Though, a common ingredient, cinnamon too is known in Ayurvedic parlance to lactate more milk in new mothers. Perhaps, you can add cinnamon in your regular tea intake as this ingredient is available in powdered form in the market. As cinnamon is a bit spicy, you have to take it moderately, says the expert from Ayurveda Singapore.

The common immunity boosters, garlic and ginger, help improve the lactation in a new mother and keep them away from minor ailments. The expert from Ayurveda Singapore says new mothers have to consume food items with liberal dose of garlic and ginger, especially in the initial month after giving birth. For, this will help increase the production of breastmilk.

Another easy way to improve the lactation among new mothers is to add almonds in milk. This will certainly help increase the lactation in new mothers, says the expert from Ayurveda Singapore. You have to soak 8-10 almonds overnight in water, peel the outer layer the next morning and grind them to make a paste. You can then add the same in warm milk and drink regularly. This is also a proven method of increasing breastmilk production.

If you want to boost estrogen levels in your body, go for fennel seeds. It will help increase estrogen levels in new mothers and aid in producing more breastmilk. As a prenatal activity, the expecting mothers can brew a teaspoon of fennel seeds in water and make tea with the same. Alternately, you can soak fennel seeds overnight in water and consume the same next morning. This can be continued even after delivery and will help to increase the breastmilk production, says the expert from Ayurvedic Singapore.

Another nature’s bounty is the pomegranate juice that will help the new mothers to lactate more milk. In addition to being a natural and awesome blood purifier, pomegrante is also beneficial for women with Kapha and Pitta Doshas. If you are a mother with Vata Dosha, you must avoid taking pomegranate, as it is likely to aggravate the dosha, says the Ayurvedic Singapore expert. In addition to the above mentioned ingredients, you can also try other healthy food items including oatmeal, fenugreek seeds, jaggery, desi ghee and anise to increase milk production, adds the expert from Ayurveda Singapore.
